IHPA was established in December 2011 as part of the National Health Reform agenda. IHPA is independent of Commonwealth, state and territory governments and is governed by the Pricing Authority, which is primarily responsible for the proper and efficient performance of IHPA’s functions.

The Classifications Section recommends the clinical classifications, coding standards and business rules associated with the implementation of a nationally consistent ABF framework for public hospital services, categorised into four work streams – Mental Health, Subacute, Emergency Care, Non-Admitted and Teaching and Training.

The Classification Officer provides technical and project officer support to enable the development and refinement of classifications including support components such as data specifications and business rules for Activity Based Funding (ABF) implementation.

This position supports the strategic direction of the Classifications Section by contribution to planning and decision-making on work programs; utilises technical, project and information management skills to achieve operational objectives; and develops and maintains productive work relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications in Health Information Management would be an advantage.
