This exciting permanent full time position at Orange Health Service is an incredible opportunity for you to broaden your skills and experience in health information management.

In this role you will lead and manage health information services for the facility, supporting ready access to quality data and information for clinical decision making, clinical quality improvement, the application of activity-based funding models and to meet the medico legal requirements for Orange Health Service.

The Orange Health Service is a major rural referral centre for the Western NSW Local Health District. It provides a range of services including emergency services inclusive of trauma, medical, general and specialist surgical, obstetrics, paediatrics, dialysis, dental, cardiology, stroke, interventional cardiology, ambulatory care, rehabilitation, sub-acute/non-acute and diagnostic services. A range of primary and community health services also operate from Orange Health Service.

With a focus on innovative models of care, Orange Health Service is the largest rural hospital in New South Wales and the regional teaching, referral and trauma centre for the Central West. Newly developed in 2011 on the grounds of Bloomfield Campus, the 520 bed state of the art facility has a 200 bed general hospital, with five operating suites and 60 specialised treatment areas.

Responsibilities / Duties: 

Leading and managing health information services for the facility/ facilities supporting ready access to quality data and information for clinical decision making, clinical quality improvement, application of activity based funding models and to meet medico legal requirements.


1. Tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management (HIM) or equivalent work experience.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary HIM practice in NSW Health, including current legislation, policy and activity based funding; and recent experience in health information management, including clinical coding.
3. Demonstrated experience working with performance frameworks, health funding models, Activity Based Management and associated data collections.
4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of concepts, structure and interoperability of health care related information and technology solutions and their gaps.
5. Experience leading and developing people from diverse backgrounds to achieve outcomes, solve problems, implement change and improve services.
6. High level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop effective working relationships with clinicians and managers.
7. Knowledge and understanding of legislation, policy and practice in relation to health information, medical record management and privacy.
8. High level understanding of health record systems within community, non-admitted and in a health care setting.
