Pindara Private Hospital is seeking to appoint a Clinical Coding Manager to join the Health Information Services Department. The clinical coding team at Pindara Private Hospital are responsible for the coding across Pindara’s four campus model. This opportunity is available as a full time position, with coverage across a 7 day rotating roster.

Responsibilities / Duties: 


The Position

Reporting to the Health Information Services Manager, the Coding Manager will provide coordination and management of the Clinical Coding function and Clinical Coding staff to ensure accurate and timely abstracting and disease procedure coding for each patient episode in accordance with Australian Coding standards and other relevant guidelines. Clinical Coding data is collected, collated and managed in line with Hospital and relevant legislative requirements and timelines.  This position will also be responsible for the ongoing education and development of coders and may need to undertake some duties on a broader (e.g. state-wide or national) basis

Essential: 

    The successful candidate(s) will be able to consistently demonstrate an ability to appropriately assign accurate and timely coding of diagnosis and procedures using current coding standards and practice and will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science, Medical Record Administration or HIM Degree 
    / Diploma or HIMAA clinical coding qualification
  • Minimum 5 years hospital medical record coding experience with a varied 
    casemix
  • Experience with mentoring and provision of education for Clinical Coder 
    Trainees and experienced Clinical Coders
  • Membership of, or eligible for membership with the Clinical Coding 
    Society of Australia
  • Experience with patient administration software relevant to hospital 
    (i.e. Meditech)
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Understanding of and commitment to principles of confidentiality
Desirable: 

    The successful candidate will ideally meet the following desirable criteria, but is not essential:

  • Previous Private Hospital experience
  • Knowledge of health fund contracts
