WW6585 - Clinical Coding Unpaid Internship 2019 - Contract - St Andrew's Hospital - SA

St Andrew’s Hospital in Adelaide is seeking applicants for an unpaid internship. This opportunity will be for a period of up to 6 months.
On completion of the intern placement, an evaluation report will be provided in addition to a work experience statement. The Hospital may offer the intern a trainee contract position, at the appropriate trainee remuneration level, following the completion of the unpaid internship.

St Andrew’s Hospital is Australia’s largest, stand-alone independent private hospital providing medical and surgical excellence to South Australians for over 80 years. It has over 200 beds with 11 state-of-the-art operating theatre suites, 3 procedural suites, a 28 bed cardiac unit, an 18 bed critical care unit and emergency service in addition to a new procedure suite complete with DOSA (Day of Surgery Admission), an angiography suite and South Australia's most comprehensive private cancer-care facility.

Responsibilities / Duties:

The placement offers the opportunity to obtain hands on experience and will utilise a blind or duplicated coding process. This approach provides the intern with a comparison between their coding outputs with that of experienced coders.

The primary purpose of the internship will be to enable the successful applicant to apply and build on their coding education theory and to apply this knowledge in a practical setting. The intern’s experience will include familiarisation with patient information systems and coding related software, policies, procedures and professional requirements in addition to the review and abstraction of data from medical records, assignment of codes and professional clinical coding practices.

Essential:

Applicants must be an entry or reentry level coder who has recently completed either the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) refresher course, intermediate or certificate IV in clinical coding course.
