We are a multi-discipline team that utilise a wealth of cost and activity data and clinical perspectives to manage and refine the Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (AR-DRG) classification system. Our work plays an essential role in the hospital realm (private and public hospitals) in both the Australian and International landscape. Our backgrounds range from clinical, classifications, actuarial and statistics.

This position oversees all components of the AR-DRG classification system development process.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Leading and managing the Section.
  • Managing the processes to refine AR-DRGs and ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS.
  • Managing the relevant advisory working groups that have been established to provide advice and coordinate the implementation of the AR-DRG classification system.
  • Undertaking rigorous statistical analysis and research to support the development and refinement of the classification system.
  • Managing the production of classification system materials.
  • Managing the certification of grouper software.
  • Providing advice and support as required to the Clinical Advisory Committee, Jurisdictional Advisory Committee and Technical Advisory Committee on matters relating to AR-DRGs, ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS, clinical coding and business rules.

  • Strategy: take responsibility for the section’s operations including conceptual development, planning, continuous improvement, people development, and change control and stakeholder management of the program of work.
  • Operations / Technical: achieve the section’s objectives. Ensure closure and deliver on intended results. Build the section’s operational capability and responsiveness, steer and implement change as well as deal with uncertainty.
  • Communications: communicate clearly and concisely with the ability to negotiate persuasively. Listen, understand and adapt to audience.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: cultivate productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the section’s staff, other IHPA management and staff, committees and working groups.
  • Governance: apply IHPA’s governance framework ensuring its internal control measures such as risk management, delegations, compliance, finance, HR, workplace health and safety and ICT are managed effectively.

  • Qualifications in Health Information Management, Statistics or Public Administration will be an advantage.
