Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team that utilise cost and activity data and clinical perspectives to manage and refine the activity-based funding classifications.

The Classification Analyst will apply their analytical skills and health information management knowledge to facilitate the development and refinement of the activity-based classifications and its supporting components.

The Classification Analyst will report to the Manager, Classification Development within the Classification and Coding Standards section to provide input to all components of the classification development process associated with the implementation of the activity-based funding pricing framework. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Contributing to the development of the newer classification systems for non-admitted care, subacute care, emergency care, mental health care and teaching and training.
  • Providing advice on clinical coding, classification terminologies and hospital metadata.
  • Developing and managing metadata and data set specifications for ABF purposes.
  • Undertaking statistical data analysis, clinical interpretation and extraction, and data mapping to support the development and refinement of classification systems.
  • Providing advice and preparing agenda and papers for the Advisory Working Groups, Clinical Advisory Committee, Jurisdictional Advisory Committee, ABF Technical Advisory Committee and other technical groups on matters relating to clinical classifications, data set specifications, clinical coding and business rules.
  • Working collaboratively with all sections of IHPA to leverage expertise in costing, classification development and data analytics.


Essential:
To be successful in this position, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • an understanding of the role of the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority, activity-based funding, hospital operations and health classifications.
  • previous experience working in a role in the health sector.
  • health information management skills, including knowledge of health data collections and systems, research and data analysis, or the ability to quickly acquire these skills.
  • an ability to apply strategic thinking, including problem solving, generating and evaluating ideas, and the ability to research and prepare well-reasoned recommendations regarding sensitive and / or complex matters.
  • highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex material for different audiences.
  • proven interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.



Desirable:

  • Health management, health information management, health economics, statistics or other related qualifications.
