Ballarat Health Services – Health Information Services (HIS) currently has an opportunity for a HIM professional to join our team for a maternity leave replacement.

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the acute VAED data collection to ensure accuracy and integrity of inpatient activity data. The role also oversees the management of paper clinical records and contributes to achieving record management and record keeping standards. A component of clinical coding is also included.

Responsibilities / Duties: 

VAED

  • Manage VAED submission for Ballarat Base Hospital campus data.
  • Undertake data extraction, cleansing, submission, cleansing, reconciliation cycle, ensuring DHHS and internal reporting timelines are met.
  • Liaise with clinical and clinical coder stakeholders to ensure compliance with the VAED Criteria for Reporting

Record Management & Record Keeping Standards

  • Manage Clinical Record & HIS archive inventories and oversight paper record management
  • Develop and implement plans for actions required to achieve compliance with the RKS for Clinical Records
  • Consult with and provide advice to other departments relating to record management
  • Assist to comply with Record Keeping Standards and PROV Retention & Disposal Schedules.

Clinical Coding

  • ICD-10-AM coding of inpatient episodes in accordance with set quota and to expected level of accuracy.


Essential:

  • Experience in managing a mandatory data collection
  • Ability to work independently, self-assign and complete tasks
  • Excellent analytical ability; to collate, analyse and present information to varying audience
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to critically evaluate data quality and seek opportunities to improve
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
