About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Clinical Coder to join our Health Informatics Service team on a part time basis. This position will can be based at either South Brisbane, Mackay or Hobart depending on the applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and analyses medical records to correctly identify all diagnoses and procedures relevant to the episode of care
  • Undertakes clinical coding (ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS) and diagnostic related grouping within agreed timeframes
  • Completion of State Cancer Registry notifications and mandatory data reporting within agreed timeframes
  • Understands and maintains privacy and confidentiality, and handles health information in accordance with relevant laws and Acts
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues and encourages teamwork
  • Assess work regularly to ensure there is continuous improvement in clinical coding and collection of quality health data


Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Bachelor of Health Science (Health Information Management) (or equivalent) or completion of a recognised Clinical Coding Course
  • Demonstrated ability to code accurately using ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS, and a sound knowledge of AR-DRGs
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous experience clinical coding in a health facility
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and Windows based packages
  • Ability to work in a team environment, effectively self organise and achieve defined goals
  • Ability to establish successful customer relationships
  • Commitment and ability to work in a safe manner
