WW6120 - SCHN Coding Quality Manager - (Full-time) - The Sydney Children's Hospital Network - Westmead, NSW


  • Pay Rate: HSM 3 ($105, 615 - $120 401)


The position requires strong leadership and communication skills, to educate on clinical documentation and improving coding quality. The role will be responsible for implementing and completing a coding quality program, establishing coding quality KPI’s and presenting findings to key stakeholders.



Key Accountabilities:

  • Implement, manage and lead the SCHN Coding Quality Process (coding audits, coding quality plan, benchmark performance, PICQ Errors, Error DRGs and HIE Errors, Hospital Acquired Complications HAC, and Outlier Reports).
    Monitor Coding Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Present Audit Findings to key stakeholders
  • Identify clinical documentation improvement opportunities to achieve optimal coding.
  • Analyse, trend and ensure the correction of SCHN PICQ errors, present findings to key stakeholders including internal hospital auditors for the annual District Network Return Process.
  • Liaise with other paediatric facilities to ensure consistency of coding decisions.
  • Recommend and support SCHN clinicians in the submission of ACCD public submissions


Decision Making:

  • Problem solve issues relating to the clinical coding quality function making recommendations for change and consistency in coding at SCHN with National Bodies responsible for classification systems and other lead paediatric facilities.
  • Operating within the parameters of the delegation manual, the clinical coding quality manager will work as a member of the clinical coding management team, and is accountable to the SCHN Coding Manager for provision advice, and achievement of work priorities and day to day management of duties.
  • The position holder is expected to operate with minimal supervision demonstrating leadership, sound judgement and the ability to prioritise workload in managing key strategic projects and balancing competing work priorities.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated excellent leadership in Clinical Coding Quality/Documentation Management using the classification system ICD-10-AM/ACHI.
  2. Demonstrate a high level understanding of Activity Based Management
  3. Demonstrate confident engagement and education skills with clinicians on clinical coding, NWAU value and impact of documentation.
  4. Proven capacity to implement and deliver coding quality KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators)
  5. Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, independently complete presentations on coding quality to the executive and key stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments and recommendations to improve coding practices and procedures.
  7. Experience with trending and analysing Performance Indicator Coding Quality Errors (PICQ).
