WW6083 - Registrar, Queensland Cancer Registry - (Full-time) - Cancer Council Queensland - Spring Hill, QLD


  • This is a full-time contract position for two years.


Medical research has successfully beaten most disease – it will beat cancer. Cancer Council Queensland is dedicated to eliminating cancer and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, treatment, patient care, prevention and early detection.

The Queensland Cancer Registry (QCR) receives notifications about cancer in Queensland, which help us to provide an accurate picture of the impact of cancer and the nature and extent of cancer throughout the state. Our data is used to help improve cancer prevention, treatments and survival rates for Queenslanders affected by cancer. Together with other state and territory data, the data gathered by the Queensland Cancer Registry is used to compile national statistics on cancer incidence and mortality.


Responsibilities / Duties: 

Make a difference by working with the Queensland Cancer Registry to assist in the timely production of accurate state-wide cancer data to meet the needs of Cancer Council Queensland and Queensland Health. You will be response for managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the QCR and ensuring the management of the quality assurance processes within the registry including internal and external validation reports and queries.

You will be responsible for reporting and publishing annual statistical publications on cancer incidence and mortality in Queensland and providing expert advice in relation to cancer terminology, data definition and data collection matters. In addition, you will liaise with external suppliers as well as the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and all other state cancer registries in Australia.

Essential: 

To be successful, you will have qualifications in Health or Information Systems field or equivalent experience. You will have extensive experience in the collection and analysis of cancer data in a health related organisation and expertise in the extraction and manipulation of data using SQL-based queries. In addition, you will have proven skills in quality assurance and quality control in relation to data and databases and knowledge of classifications and coding systems.

Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and experience with a variety of computer operations and packages are essential, as is your integrity and commitment to maintaining and respecting the confidentiality of work conducted within the Queensland Cancer Registry.
