WW5978 - Clinical Coder - (Full-time) - Calvary John James Hospital , Deakin, ACT




Calvary John James Hospital (CJJH) is the largest private hospital in Canberra situated in the leafy suburb of Deakin. It is a Catholic non for profit private 155 bed acute care facility providing a range of Medical, Surgical, Obstetric and Rehabilitation services for the Canberra community and surrounding region.

CJJH is part of the Little Company of Mary HealthCare, a national Catholic health, aged care and community service provider.

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Clinical coder to join a small team of coders within the Health Information Services section. This is a full-time position however part-time or casual availability may also be considered. This position will be based at Calvary John James Hospital, however from time to time you may be required to work across another Calvary ACT site.

Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • Ensure timely and accurate coding of inpatient episodes using current edition of International Classification of Disease-10-AM/ACHI/ACS.
  • Validate accuracy of Diagnostic Related Groups allocation.
  • Optimize coding throughput and quality whilst adhering to data submission deadlines
  • Flexibility to perform other administrative duties should the need arise.


Essential: 
  • Successful completion of recognized Clinical Coding course from HIMAA or equivalent.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work across both Calvary ACT Private hospitals on occasion to ensure that coding deadlines are met.
  • Successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment Police check prior to commencement.


Desirable: 
  • Minimum 2 years experience coding varied casemix and using the current edition of ICD-10-AM
  • Knowledge of Casemix Funding principles and Health fund contracts
  • Demonstrated experience with TURBOCODER
  • Experience with IPM patient information system
